Rewiring

Here we go!

"I should start writing these things down" - me, 2018(?)

Two days ago at work we got hit with the Doom of Damocles - it's finally time to Return To The Office. The current policy is "please show up every now and then", under which I moved a 4 hour drive away to be with my family. The new one was presented as ">=8 days a month, non-negotiable". The uproar that followed seemed to make some headway into lowering the requirements, but regardless it seems that the jig is up.

This post is not about remote work or the policy, but this leads to the point of me starting this blog: things might not stay as stable as I'd hoped, so I should not either. I thought to actually spend a decade or two here, but now it seems I might have to adjust that particular plan. This finally gave me the push to hit the few buttons that enable me to hit a lot more buttons.

The goal of this blog is to give me the space and motivation to improve as a writer and communicator and to hopefully reduce the perfectionism that often stops an idea before it even has a chance to be realized. In these times I think there's inherent value in being a producer rather than just a consumer. I've always enjoyed teaching people, so maybe this can act as a platform for that as well.

At the same time I have no plans and so many plans for what to write next. One post I've long wanted to write is about the joys and horrors of Azure Pipelines, so that's probably next, and maybe I'll write a post or two (maybe in Finnish) about some CS basics. No idea where this'll go, but I hope it goes far 🧭

Thanks to Herman for the Bear platform - this seems to be exactly what I needed to get me over the speedbump of just starting the thing!
